Our Curriculum
Our Curriculum
At Cwm Glâs we know that children learn best when actively engaged in experiences that stimulate their interest, ignite their imagination and inspire their curiosity. These experiences should encourage children to investigate, explore, create and be active participants in their learning.
By utilising relevant and meaningful experiences that are rooted in real-life contexts, we enable children to make connections, apply their knowledge and consolidate their skills. Real-life experiences enable children to take the lead in asking questions, identifying problems, taking risks and finding solutions.
By creating opportunities for children to apply what they are learning to real-life situations we help them understand the purpose of their learning and enhance well-being, self-esteem and resilience. It encourages exploration and creativity supports children to develop an understanding of the world around them.
Our curriculum aims to prepare pupils for life. They are given opportunities to learn and apply knowledge and skills in different situations.
The Four Core Purposes
Teachers and pupils place the Four Core Purposes of the new curriculum at the heart of all learning experiences.
At Cwm Glâs we use the acronym CLIC to help the pupils identify which of the purposes they develop during their learning. They provided an important reference for our pupils and support them in understanding the language used. Pupils regularly review their learning and complete review activities with their work to show the application of the purposes.
The four purposes are represented by our Acorn mascot with each part of CLIC jigsaw, which fit together to create a whole pupil’s development.
The four purposes ensure that our pupils at Cwm Glâs are:
Ethical, Informed Citizens
who are ready to be citizens of Wales and the world.
Ambitious, Capable Learners
who are ready to learn throughout their lives.
Healthy, Confident Individuals
who are ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.
Enterprising, Creative Contributors
who are ready to play a full part in life and work.
